Goal this week is to:
Look into a new apartment across the street from new office.
Get an eye exam, new glasses, and new contact lenses (definitely ordering online this year).
Budget out UPS’s for work & home, and a new mouse for home as well.
Develop the logo’s for 2009 awesome polo shirt order (budget that too).
Try and get a hold of some contacts for an Atom Pico-Itx...

Replacing with 1/2 of the stored procedure bullshit used to render a page with a simple ejb3 middle tier action and it’s now 50% faster. 29 seconds to 15 seconds.
Seems like the slowest things in our system leverage views & stored procedures. And, why is it so hard to figure out what a user can search for… grr. Seems to me that people’s jobs change so infrequently that repeatedly researching what they can work on is a gigantic waste of time.

If 30 seconds response time (page load) is acceptable when there are 20 users requesting away… why would we possibly report we can support hundreds of users?
And if 8 seconds response time is acceptable when there are 10 users.. wouldn’t we report we support 2 users?
I dont want to wait 10 seconds for a page to render.. seriously guyz.. seriously.

In case you haven’t used it before.. it basically is the most awesomely awesome load testing tool ever. It has a TCPProxy now that can record your http requests, and replay them.. in its own botnet.. distributed.. throughout the world if you want.

Timelapse (15x realtime) of brewing coffee using a Yama vacuum (siphon) brewer.
I step in to stir it three times, with a brewing time of about 3 minutes. I don’t know how much stirring is actually necessary, but I’m sure too much can’t hurt.
Compared to other brewing methods, this is far less practical and convenient. But...

playing with asynchronous context sensitive field level help. I like it better. need to add caching to the fields.. but, seems like a smarter way to write the pages. (hides all that crazy logic we’ve been copy-pasting)

ok.. could be faster with some tweaking, certainly not hitting a drive bottleneck there.. but, nice to know that its just a lame sata drive.. which is easily fixable.

I think this cheap-ass switch I’m running at home is my bottle neck.. cant seem to break 12MiB/s … i should be getting closer to 50Mib/s…
